Artist History
“Honest, passionate, music for the soul…” Comments like this often follow the Go Deep “experience”. Whether it’s a live show or just listening to their critically acclaimed independent release No Other Place. There is a uniqueness in this blend of pop/alt/rock that’s hard to describe. It’s fresh, yet familiar…somehow you know the songs about half way through the first listen…they instantly get inside you. As great as it is, it’s not just about the music. Go Deep is more than a rock band. Founder/front man Michael Howell explains Go Deep like this: “The world is full of things that are fake…imitation this, artificial that, simulated whatever… The thing is, people are looking for what’s real. As Christians, I don’t think we’ve necessarily given them that. For the most part we’ve shown people a human “version” of God but not the real deal. Through our music (and lives) we want to be totally real and totally honest about who we are and where we’re at. “Where we’re at” meaning…we’re all headed somewhere. We’ve all got a next step with God. Some steps will take us further away and some will take us closer. Our hope is that as we sing songs that come out of our own real experience with God, it will inspire others to make their next step…a step towards Him.”Go Deep is not just a band; it’s a group of ministers for this generation. Following in the musical footsteps of pop/rock icons like U2 and Simple Minds mixed with some of today’s hottest sounds compared to bands such as Third Eye Blind and Splender, their sound reaches a broad range of people from young teens to fourty-somethings.College Campuses, clubs, coffeehouses and Churches are the places you’ll find Go Deep giving there all to express an undying passion for something deeper than a “surface” relationship with God. In fact, the group began as Michael H. became dissatisfied with the routine of going into a church or youth event to do a concert (as a solo artist) all for the sake of the music. “It just wasn’t fulfilling. People need more than good music, they need something that’s gonna get them through the next week, day or even the next hour. They need to experience the presence of God. That’s where the strength to make it comes from.” Michael teamed up with His wife and some other friends to do some worship services, but these were no ordinary gatherings. From the first note it was obvious that God had something great in mind. After completing His third solo record, with a strong desire to draw on the gifts and talents of others who shared the same vision, Michael brought in friends to do a few overdubs and make this third CD a “Group” project. After several Concerts and personnel changes the group settled into it’s current lineup of Michael Howell (lead vocals/guitar), Michael Phelps (guitar), Nathan Coats (drums) and long time studio partner Rob Wirtz (Bass). “There’s a really cool energy in this group. Everybody brings something totally unique to our sound”. -This is evident on the latest release from the boys. Their new “Maxi Single” featuring a song penned by Michael & Michael (You Are…) packs a seasoned punch of raw emotion into a driving track of retro-80’s synth sounds, industrial drum loops and guitars that go right through you!Based out of Dallas/Fort Worth, when their not touring, three of the guys (Michael, Michael & Rob) are working as a production team in a world class studio just outside of Fort Worth where in the last few years they’ve worked on tons of custom albums and even a few Grammy nominated records. The fourth and newest member of the band, Nathan, plays drums at his church and is the Jr. High Pastor. |

“Strong vocals prevail on songs proficiently written… Without sounding like another U2 clone, the band manages to embody a passion not unlike the pop super group.” -CCM Magazine |
