Artist History
Twisty Willow formed in 1990 with an emphasis on playing Celtic instrumentals. An early project was recording 16 dance sets for a 4-tape resource for teaching folk dance in New Zealand schools. It is still used extensively. As the Irish pub scene developed in Auckland through the nineties, Twisty Willow's repertoire of songs expanded. Scottish songs and tunes were added along with tunes for ceilidh dances. Demand for called dancing at ceilidhs has increased over the last few years and Twisty Willow specialises in this area. The current repertoire can suit any occasion from concert to ceilidh to rowdy pub. Tours include the North Island of New Zealand and Fiji. The band passed the 1000th gig milestone just before the new millenium. |
