Artist description
Toothpaste is a completely improvisational three-piece outfit. In the words of lead singer Dan Monahan, "We just decide on a song name and go." With this approach, there is no room for planning or apprehension. Every song that Toothpaste makes is a pure statement, filled with passion and utterly devastating. |

Music Style
To say that we are a rock band would be irresponsibly misleading. We are a band of many voices and many styles |

Artist History
In the summer of 1995, Alan took a shower in his clothes, Blake found a guitar, and Dan went in his dorm room to finish some programming assignments. Blake and Alan pounded out meaningless, 30-second songs in the dorm suite, while Dan interjected rude comments about their lack of talent. Toothpaste was thusly born, Dan being recruited as the lead singer, simply because he was conveniently nearby. At the end of the summer of 1995, the band recorded their first album, "Songs About Sucking." To the band's delight, their debut effort received high praise from a local newspaper, and several of the catchiest Toothpaste numbers enjoyed one shot at radio airplay. During school breaks of 1996 and 1997, the band layed out material for their second album, "Still Sucking," a collection of songs double the size of their first album. A gargantuan Toothpaste multimedia project was aborted late 1999, and the band has not recorded since. Indeed, wheresoever lies the will to rock, there lies the spirit of Toothpaste. |

Press Reviews
(Excerpt) Toothpaste's musical vision represents a combination of uninhibited improvisation, stripped-down song structure and a humorous look at mainstream America, college, and friends. They are taking hardcore to a unique new level, whether you like it or not. (Mike Solita, Northwestern Daily) |
