Artist description
They tend to write poppy rock songs, but have a tendency to come up with these massive, powerful jams , out of nowhere, in the middle of Their sets. Some have said that this band is one of the best livebands that they have ever seen. They are quite awesome, especially for a three piece, and they fill up aroom in ways that only Cream, Hendrix, and Nirvanawere able. Everyone should check these guys out! |

Press Reviews
Think post-Sgt. Pepper Beatles meets Nirvana with enough room in the tentfor a whole lotta other folk - early Pink Floyd, Some Girls-era Stones,Zeppelin, that bluesman by the name of Robert Johnson, etc. In other words, heady, complicated stuff not normally cranked out bycollege bands these days. The Revolver's first area-released album, Sunny Side Down, is indeed asticky smorgasbord of all those treats 1990s alternateen music told you not toenjoy - an incredibly tight rhythm section, poppy guitars, lyrics beyond the man-my-life-sucks motif and (what's that, my god?!) a melody. All thetunes, in fact, go beyond three minutes, and clang shut not with a GreenDay-esque fury, but instead with a craftsman's appreciation for song, a la the early Prince or the later Springsteen. I know, seems hard to believe, but it's all true. This is rare stuff, my friends. Gain an appreciation quick before thispower trio goes the way of other local notables like Squirrel Nut Zippers andBen Folds Five and Archers of Loaf, those unique cats who rarely pay uspittiling Southerners a visit now that they've found fame. "We hope you burn" and "Middle Ground" throb on this release, with both choruses clanging around in the brain long after the CD player's been putto slumber. Sunny Side Down - produced by Scott Egbert (a.k.a. Chill E. Dan,for whatever reason), formerly of Dangerman, at Carrboro's Room 2 for less than 400 bucks - has throb in spades, as the drums of Seth Zakks and the bass of Jim Presto click intuitively on each of the seven songs. The stickiest treat of all, however, is "On An Island," a seemingly preordained college radio hit in the vein of R.E.M.'s "Radio Free Europe"or Liz Phair's "Supernova" - pulsating, catchy, above all, melodic andmemorable above today's din of angst-ridden rabble. Frank Presto's guitars pop along through "On An Island" and the lyrics grab you right where, well, where rock lyrics should grab you. Listencloser, though, and you shan't be disappointed. The Revolver's Sunny Side Down - a must listen and quickly. |
