    Artist History
Iowa. A state that does not receive much if any recognition for its music has raised a band that is sure to surprise kids all over. As Slave (issue six) put it, “No twenty seconds of their CD can pass without finding yourself completely surprised at what’s coming from your stereo.” Preacher Gone To Texas is a band straight out of The Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois. The songs they create are a mixture of heavy hardcore riffs juxtaposed with melodic, emotional breakdowns. All of this overlaid with screaming and singing. Although stylistically comparable to some of the heavy hardcore bands coming out these days (poison the well, shai hulud, cave in), Preacher provides a unique musical and lyrical palette, which is not often seen in the hardcore music of the day. Preacher Gone To Texas is not necessarily new to the hardcore scene. Having formed in the fall of 1999 Preacher has had the pleasure of playing many shows for many different kids. Like many if not all bands, the live show is the best part of being in a band. It gives them a chance to play the music they love for the people they love. Preacher has gone on two tours as of late and plans to tour much more in the future. The first of the tours was primarily composed of Midwest shows. The latter if the two was a nice trek out to New York and back. They plan to cover the entire United States over the course of this summer. Each consecutive tour was supported by a different recording. The first recording Preacher Gone Go Texas completed was in the spring of 1999. It is a six-song EP entitled “from motion to melody.” After the completion of that CD and the tour supporting it, preacher started to mature musically and started writing more complex songs. Eventually the band was ready to record another EP for their summer tour. They recorded a four song self titled EP which showed some real progress for the band. They were now starting to tap into an original blend of hardcore and melodic emotional breakdowns. This CD was received well within the hardcore scene and Preacher began to develop a name for themselves. This brings us up to the present time and situation preacher is in. They have just finished recording a new record, which they plan to have out in early may. Unlike the other of their releases, Preacher is looking to have label support on the new recording. Regardless of what happens to Preacher Gone To Texas, they will always keep in touch with why they play music. This music is an expression, and a sharing of feelings with others. This is a band that is looking to have a great time playing with as much energy as possible. The band is excited to get back out on the road playing shows again. What comes out of Iowa you ask? Cows, corn, and knots void of slipping? Yes, but not only that. There are bands from Iowa as hardworking and talented as bands originating from the coasts. Preacher Gone To Texas is a good example. Matt, Seth, Matt, Mike, and Mark are out to meet as many people and share as much as possible with those people. So the next time you see that a band from Iowa is playing in your area, give them a shot. Keep an eye on Preacher Gone To Texas to see where they are going to go next.
