Artist History
Grace Cerrone, an American of Italian descent, brings back the class and internationally recognized talent of fine Jazz. Her rich vocal styling and lush arrangements are reminiscent of her influences; great Jazz singers like Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson, and Ella Fitzgerald made modern with a touch of Joni Mitchell, Barbra Streisand, Lisa Stansfield, Swing Out Sister, and Michael Bublé. Grace croons new life into classic Jazz standards, while captivating audiences with her vocal beauty, original songs, lyrics, and arrangements. After years of live performance, Grace Cerrone is ready to record her first Jazz album in early 2004 - a combination of standards and original songs with the goal of creating an album full of warmth and sexy beauty. The music industry has already embraced the project, beginning with legendary singer/arranger and five- time Grammy Award winner Alan Paul of the multi-platinum Jazz quartet, The Manhattan Transfer. Alan is an accomplished music veteran meticulously focused on song selection, arrangements, and vocals. Both Alan and Grace are hand-picking the musicians to be featured on the recording, including internationally renowned drummer Dave Weckl from the Chick Correa band. Dave's brilliant recording and touring pianist, Steve Weingart, who also co-writes with him, is integral to Grace's album along with Venezuelan Jazz pianist and composer Otmaro Ruiz who has also signed on as arranger and performer. This all-star lineup perfectly compliments Grace's own talents and is sure to produce an outstanding and wildly successful record. Europe is already calling.
Grace Cerrone trained as an actress beginning at age six in her hometown of Boston. A professional actress and singer at eleven years old, Grace worked steadily in national voice-over, theatre, television, and even toured with a New York Equity cast for the musical, "Gypsy" performing as Baby Louise by the age of 13. She was represented in New York City by child manager, Muriel Karl. She studied operatic and classical voice performance with the Metropolitan Opera’s Gabriella Tucci at the prestigious Indiana University School of Music. After committing to follow her heart to a career in Jazz, Grace began performing live and recording with renowned Boston jazz pianist, Al Vega and his stellar group of jazz musicians. Soon after those recordings, Grace moved from Boston to Los Angeles where she joined the Life Choir, a professional Gospel group under renowned musical director for Aretha Franklin, H.B. Barnum. During her time in Los Angeles, Grace has performed or recorded with legends like Natalie Cole and Dionne Warwick, and at benefits hosted by Sidney Poitier, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward as well as others.
Grace Cerrone's life thus far has been blessed although not without great loss, as Grace's talent is bringing her fresh opportunities to share a greater depth and beauty to her work. This first album, "The Nearness Of You" is dedicated to the memory of her father and his great influence on her life.
Grace Cerrone is the future of classic Jazz, and the world is all ears.
