Artist description
Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist with a bluesy, soulful feel, given a sometimes-Country tinge, ably assisted by Bass/Drums/Piano. Noted locally for an exuberant live show, but more recently toned down (probably due to old-age setting in). Dave writes honest, no-nonsense songs about life, love, faith and sex, with a smattering of murder ballads, drawing on his past "bad boy" image, dysfunctional upbringing (and adulthood), and a steady, happy marriage for the past 19 years. |

Artist History
Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter Dave McLean has been playing Blues and R'n'B in Auckland for 25 years. A former frontman for late '70's R'n'B Punks Johnny & The Hookers, and frontman for Auckland R'n'B legends The Furys, Dave has gained recognition as something of a "Grandfather" of Auckland R'n'B, through his wildman image and boisterous, good humoured stage presence. A large and sometimes imposing dude, Dave has a reputation that is far more fearsome than the reality - these days, you could almost take him home to meet your Mother! After being bitten by a rabid born-gain preacher during a stint in the church and a stretch at a local Bible College, Dave had (yet another) falling out with the establishment. At least it provided a rich mine for songwriting... After so many years in a strict R'n'B format, a late-blooming interest in Country Blues styles has seen Dave's songwriting blossom, and recording has now become high priority (again, perhaps due to old-age!) Look out for more MP3 releases soon! |
