Artist History
The official subrock started out as couple of other bands. Our first endeavor was as the marauding Math Tunnel Band. The math tunnel band had only three purposes: To confuse and annoy our math teacher, to entertain ourselves, and to make people ask " What the hell is the math tunnel?". The math tunnel consisted of five math students coming into our math class and doing cheers, making human pyramids, and jumping through hula hoops covered in paper. We left a lasting mark on that class with achievements including T-shirts that were printed and given to our math teacher and a still uncompleted introduction to math 12 video. From this band two members emerged still devoted to the cause Duncan Gidney and yours truly, Ian Hoar. Thus "Are you ready for sex grandma" was formed. We were a band that everyone hated but we still got calls when a band didn’t or couldn't show up. All of our song were originals and we never practiced, we didn't know how a song was going to begin or end until we had played it. We had about ten gigs at local scout halls and we even got an infamous gig in Courtenay under the false pretenses that we were the sophistos (a Landsdowne Jr. secondary school legend). We also played an impromptu eviction party at Willis Lombard's apartment to a bunch of drunk twenty-somethings. AYRFSG was best known for its guest musicians and its annoying yet somehow brilliant grooves. Joined by sometimes up to ten members only one stuck, Josh Doherty. With all of our talents and tastes combined we churned out first album " Cigarettes and dinner Jackets" which was a culmination of six or seven months of Nintendo playing and Wendy's eating. With Josh's guitar/harmonica playing and Duncan's affinity for the Organ and Saxophone and my addiction to samples, a four track recorder took us to a new level of creation. We have played one gig so far for the "Communist Party of Canada" (yes, actual communists) and hopefully we can play more when we are ready. Our planned next album is going into production over the Christmas Holidays and is planned to be called "After-mints". Guest artists will include: Liz Reed (featured vocalist on our first album), Dan Coloussi, Kate Maurice and hopefully many more. On our self named Label "Slow Motion Records" and our three organs we will continue to churn out the tunes and bring our music to you. |
