Artist description
RECiPe for indie folk: Combine a healthy dose of Leonard Cohen or Nick Drake inspired acoustic darkness with the indie pop sensibilities of Liz Phair. Stir slowly into a pot of warm melody. Pour in a spoonful of the haunting self consciousness of Lisa Germano. Add a pinch of Black Francis or Geraldine Fibbers style angst. Whisk together and heat until sonic. Consume and be soothed. Repeat.Ramona the Pest is a mutating musical entity centering around the captivating voice of Valerie Esway, and the sonic guitar tapestries of co-conspirator and husband Lucio Menegon. The duo can often be found performing live with the addition of the twisted and beautiful melodic musings of multi-instrumentalist Jeff Hobbs, as well as the rhythmic backbone upright bassist Alex de Soria and Jon Curtis on the drum kit. And, you know, we rock out live. |

Artist History
RTP's latest recording, Little Knives, is its second CD and sixth self-release since 1995. Recorded and mixed in the band's Berkeley, CA warehouse studio, located just 20 feet from tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad, "Little Knives" is not unlike the year spent making it-- decorated with aches and pains, dust and trains, tantrums, crushed glass and scraped knees. This same DIY spirit has kept Ramona pestering people in clubs, cafes, living rooms and rooftops far and wide. From one woman singing spooky lullabies, to an acoustic power trio, to a 5 piece band brewing hypnotic noise, RTP will continue its schedule of regional touring and regular SF Bay Area appearances in order to promote its music catalog and further expand its audience. |

Press Reviews
"Lithe, chilling vocals...accentuated by a lush, creepy-crawly sound, bedecked with atmospherics." East Bay Express (CA)"The song writing is strong and poetic-with a delicious dark side. The music is haunting and melodic...Esway's impressive vocal command lives in perfect harmony with Menegon's guitar mastery." Fairfield County Weekly (CT)"Valerie Esway's voice is a haunting musical instrument. She and her progressive folk-pop-rock band Ramona the Pest constitute one of the San Francisco Bay area's most promising young groups." Arizona Daily Star. |
