Artist History
Old Man Johnson was originally created in 1999 by members Jordan Olsen on acoustic guitar and Danny Carver on bass, with both members contributing their vocals. The two performed a few shows as a duo, but soon called on the percussion savvy Mike Lomax to join the band. As a trio the band performed for almost two years as an acoustic, folk rock group playing shows all over Utah including Liquid Joe’s, The Zephyr Club and many other fine venues. But in the fall of 2001 the band realized they needed another musical element, and recruited guitarist Wim Becker. Since adding Becker to the lineup OMJ has undergone a large genre change. When the band first started writing music they wrote acoustic tunes with the emphasis of the music focused on the hilarium of the lyrical content. Their first CD “A Conversation With Tom Foolery” was primarily composed of this style. However, OMJ has always been influenced by a variety of music from jazz to geek rock. Since the release of their first disc OMJ has felt the itch to rock and has slowly but surly progressed in that direction. OMJ has almost totally reinvented themselves as a full on rock band. |
