Artist description
“From among the jungles of the Serengeti, under the face of an August moon, the sounds of percussion break the still night...” so explained a young boy to his friends in a French neighborhood many years ago. He made it clear that he was “ENDIKO, he who roams the jungle under the light of the harvest moon.” From those days of being the designated singer on his school bus rides, there seeded the thought of musicology. However, years passed before he was able to answer the call.
The seeds of ENDIKO lay buried under a few more years of life spent completing university as a noted football athlete followed by building a prosperous business. In January 1990 he took the first step in answering the call to the world of music when he sold his 50-employee business and set his sails. Then his goal was to enter into a plan to learn how to play the piano and read and write music. Despite an intensive effort, he thought it might take as long as 10 years to reach this goal. It took 12.
In July 2002, ENDIKO reclaimed the name he had brought into being so long before and released his first 9-track CD entitled Too Cool To Sweat. In this debut work he spins a fabric of Latino-Afro percussion with an infusion of woodwinds and horns particularly evident in the songs of ‘Rare,’ ‘Can I Be There’, ‘Never Really Know’, and ‘Gimme Some Room.’ ENDIKO’S musical influences, Santana, Tower of Power, Marc Anthony and Al Jarreau, create a rich tapestry and an eclectic mix of songs. He would like his music to blend cultures and ethnicities while soothing the listener into believing that all is right with the world.
ENDIKO has made his home in the vacation paradise of La Jolla, California. He is promoting his debut release under the eponymous label of Endiko Enterprises, LLC. What ENDIKO has created is not merely a sound but a panoply of sounds—sounds that roar in the night.
