Artist History
Rival Bat Dung Gatherers has more interesting history than Pam Anderson's sex life...Well maybe not. RBDG was the brain child of Matt and Dan.
The Fall of '99 Matt wanted to start a band but not just any ole band but a ska band none-the-less. While trying to recruit members he came across Dan who played saxafone. Soon after Matt became good friends with Dan and realized he was much much better on guitar and that is what Dan wanted to play. Matt, realizing that a ska was just too damn ridiculous and Dan had a natural knack for guitar, just wanted a 3 piece with Dan on guitar and Matt one drums.
The Winter of '99 rolls around and Matt and Dan actually start to practice with no bass player. The first time they practiced together they recorded the now cult classic, "The What Song" which is avaiable on this site. Soon Matt and Dan realized they needed a bass player like they needed an enima to the ass. Then in January '00 Matt recruited a long time friend, Nick to play bass. Now the circle was complete! Rival Bat Dung Gatherers had a soul but that soul was soon to be corrupted by the seeds of darkness.
RBDG practiced and polished their act playing such venues as the Fisher Fest '00 and a block party (that was it come to think of it) but soon after the unthinkable happened. After Fisher Fest '00 (september) the band decided to take a break from each other to do some soul searching. After a few months (3-4) apart they got back together but the chemistry didn't return--it was on a permanent holiday. RBDG called it quits early in the year '01. The dream was over. Dan went on with his musical career making songs that he could sing all by himself. Nick went on and created the hugest muscles on a teenager and Matt just sat in his basement.
Soon came word late in the summer of '01 that RBDG was offered to play Fisher Fest 2001. The boys of RBDG took the last shred of dignity they had (and 200 bucks) to come back together to play Fisher Fest 2001. After preparing for it Matt and Dan decided that they would want to stick together but Nick had other plans unbeknownst to the other two members. The boys went on and played Fish Fest 2001 without a hitch unveiling new and old songs. The sound this time was more rock than poppy punk and ska. Matt and Dan were excited because soon after that had a show booked at a local coffee house. Then the rain came storming on their parade.
While online one night Matt recieved and e-mail from Nick. It was a desperate cry for help--actually it just stated that he could not play the show but didn't say he was out for good.. This came only 4 weeks before the show. So in a mad dash Matt and Dan looked for a replacement. Soon they came upon a classmate named Matt R. Within 3 weeks they taught him how to rock out RBDG style and when they played their show--it was thier most sucessful show. Thereafter Matt and Dan made the decision to keep Matt R. as a permanent bass player and so it stood.
The journey from the Rival Bat Dung Gatherers of the past to the Rival Bat Dung Gatherers of now was a long and not-so-complex one. None-the-less RBDG are here to rock you friggin socks off!
