Artist History
After singing in a few bands in the San Francisco Bay Area for several years, Johnny Lima decided it was time to go out on his own. In 1996, Johnny took the rock world by the balls with the release of his self-titled independent debut album and soon caught the attention of many rock fans and critics worldwide. His music, which showcased strong vocal performances with catchy melodic hooks, put a new spin on the familiar style developed by artists like BRYAN ADAMS, DEF LEPPARD, and BON JOVI. 1998 saw Johnny signing with Now and Then/Frontiers Records to a multi-album deal. He spent most of ’98 in the studio recording his follow-up to the debut. After the new album was recorded, Johnny spent a few weeks in England doing final mixes with Gary Hughes (from British band TEN). His new album “Shine On” was released in April of 1999, and received rave reviews from critics all over the world. In November of '99, European fans finally realized how special a Johnny Lima show is, when he played at the infamous "GODS OF AOR" show in Manchester, England. Currently, Johnny is in his Northern California studio recording his new album, tentatively titled "Made In California". The new album should see the light of day sometime around Sept/Oct of 2001. |

Press Reviews
"SHINE ON" REVIEWS **** Andrew McNeice - MelodicRock.com May 1999 Australia "This will please a good many melodic rock fans, especially those that worship the glory days of late 80's stadium rock, a la Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. Johnny Lima has recorded an album that is faithful to his debut, yet surpasses it in every department. Essential for American stadium rock fans and big bombastic AOR fans. 90% out of 100%." Gabor Kleinbloesem - Strutterzine May 1999 Netherlands "JOHNNY LIMA has released a great follow-up to his fantastic debut. 9 out of 10 points!!" The Big Room – Volume 2, Issue #227 JULY 1999 (USA) "Polished, mature, catchy, and energized, "Shine On" is a true hard rock blockbuster with an overall feel that reminds listeners of the best ballads and rockers of Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. The songs immediately grab hold of you, from the charging, Vietnam-themed My Country ‘Tis Of Thee to the sweet, rootsy pop of Touch Of Love, the sharp, aggressive Leaving In The Morning, the big pomped-up rock of Too Late, the downtempo, wistful Memory Lane, the punchy power pop of Sweet Sixteen, and the emotional, bittersweet, and well-orchestrated ballad In Someone Else’s Arms. Shine On foretells a bright future for rising star Johnny Lima, an artist poised at the front of AOR/Melodic Rock’s next wave; with rich, admirable performances and absolutely top-flight songcraft, the album may quickly become essential for fans of late 80’s arena rock. 8/10" |
