Artist description BOX-O-CAR is a five piece band hailing from Chicago with glam/power-pop sensibilities who have become local and regional club favorites over the last two years. On the strength of their demos alone, BOX-O-CAR has received airplay numerous times on Chicago radio stations WKQX (Q101), WXRT (voted the best radio station in the world), and WLUW, Chicago's Independent Community Radio. Their incendiary live performances have also garnered them a reputation as one of Chicago’s "must-see" live acts. In February of 1999 the band finished its debut album (released by Veronica Records in January of 2000) at Kingsize Sound Labs in Chicago. The album was engineered by BOX-O-CAR guitarist Kenny Sluiter, whose numerous recording credits include the Pulsars, the Mekons, the Jesus Lizard, Archer Prewitt, the Aluminum Group, Floraline and Freedy Johnston. BOX-O-CAR stole its name from a now-defunct high school rock band from Osaka, Japan, simply because they liked the sound of it. BOX-O-CAR is singer-guitarist Skid Marks, guitarist Cory Hance, drummer Randy Payne, bassist Dan Polonsky, and guitarist Kenny Sluiter. Much of BOX-O-CAR’s debut album also includes the contributions of Mitch Marlow and Larry Beers. In preparation for the release of their debut album, Faster Than The Sound Of Speed, BOX-O-CAR has adopted the post-modern stance of worshiping and loathing themselves simultaneously. This seemingly contradictory world-view readies BOX-O-CAR for the dizzying heights of success, offering audiences something interesting to watch as the band struggles with its conflicting desire to be both loved and destroyed.
