Artist History
bliss formed in the end of 1997. Since then, we have played many gigs in the region to spread our sound out to the peoples.. along the way, writing and recording somewhere close to sixty original songs. In the fall of 1999, the band completed their first full-length cd, Sol Music. Recorded entirely by the band members at their home studio, on a very small budget. Sol Music is the result ofa years worth of hard work and love for making music together. |

Press Reviews
The Following review of the band's debut full length cd, Sol Music, is from the first April, 2000 edition of Citybeat magazine's "Spill it" column by Mike Breen... Spill It CityBeat's Music News 'Bliss'-ful Debut, One of the cooler new bands Spill It has heard in a while is local Pysch-Rock quintet Bliss. The group's debut release, Sol Music, is one of those little unexpected gems that creeps across this music critic's desk every once and awhile and gives me hope for the new talent in the Cincinnati area. The album - recorded by the band in their home studio `- is chock full of dreamy, lysergic songs that would appeal to fans of the earlier work from neo-pyschedelic purveyors like the Flaming Lips and Spritualized. While the music has that floating, celestial glide, there is a respectable amount of organic grit that gives the band their own identity, and there's an almost rootsy feel to several tracks. The layers of guitar ooze and refreshingly unpredictable dynamics buoy the lilting, echoing melodies, which are well-written and catchy. The band uses psychedelia as a motif, but they still manage to have songs that you'll remember melodically. Where other bands playing this style may easily become too self-indulgent, Bliss have a firm grasp on creative structuring and writing without sacrificing the good of the song. |
