    Artist History
Spelldown, was formed in a small town in the greater Montreal region in the summer of 1997. Sebastian, Dominic and Ray were playing in a prog-metal band known as "The Birds of Zeuxis"for 2 years. In the first couple of months of '97 they found themselves without a 6 string, so the hunt for new blood and of course a new direction began. So one day in a downtown Montreal record shop,Sebastian found an add among a couple of hundreds who caught his attention. You got that right Alex and Cedric!!! They played together for 3 years before joining Seb,Dom and Ray. Alex, ex-member of MindCrime, a local thrash metal band in the the Montreal rock scene and Cedric, ex-member of a dark death metal band. They finally got together for a first few couple of jams were they rehearsed a few Iron Maiden covers... among them was "Hallowed be thy name". The band was heading on the right track and composed songs after songs of powerfull and melodic metal when on december 16 1997 Alex and Cedric were robed from their valuable equipment and sudenly nothing!!! But not for long, can you imagine an acoustic version of Necropolis??? Well it has been done...and they wrote a couple of songs this way including "Clash of the swords" and you can judge for yourself what this song came to be.The months went by and the deadly incident striked again, in february 1999, guitar and bass gear were stolen from their ^%$4"luxurious"*@&# rehearsal studio. This happened at a very bad time, right in the production of "Damnation from the highest point". So once again the guys got their act together and gave a final boost of energy to finish this more than respectable production. So here we are "Damnation from the highest point" is soon to be released in early july, with all the efforts deployed to give birth to this project we hope it will please you as much as it was for them doing this promo CD. So I'll start by telling you that Spelldown are beginning a series of concerts in the Quebec region. We'll be touring the region as much as possible. So the story continues as this...in October 99 Spelldown joined forces with Jacques Marcoux and started a nice little project. Its called Armada and it consists of all the Spelldown members with their respective instruments, Jacques on the classical guitars, Sebastian, of course sings, along with "Coronation" singer Pete. I too sing, but don't worry just a small part of the song!!:)Along with Erico our keyboard player, trust me it will deliver the goods!!Since November99, Spelldown as been in the process of writing songs, on the way for a studio trip planned as soon as possible, and by the way we're still looking for a label to sign us and give us the exposure needed. So this is where Spelldown is and its not over yet don't worry!! The fire still rages on in our hearts and hope it's still raging in yours! We'll write again soon and thank you very much for your support!! THE SPELL IS DOWN ON YOU! Catch up with you guys soon see ya! Press Reviews
metalmania: 4.5/5.0"Quality production, catchy songs, they bring a completely new metal style to the Quebec metal scene. They are a great pride for the local scene. A masterpiece to come! This mini cd is too short, the only solution... hit repeat again!"Barcode: 3.5/5.0This Canadian 5-piece was formed back in 1997 and as far as I know this is their first demo. The band has done a great job promoting the demo and I don`t think this is the last we have heard from this promising band. Spelldown offer classy up-tempo power metal. The band lists bands such as Iced Earth, Nevermore and Gamma Ray as influences, which should give you a clue what this is all about. The songs are based around heavy, powerful, dueling guitars, pounding drums, up-front bass and power-choruses. The mid-ranged and powerful vocals of Sebastian Nudo is solid and well suited for this music. The musicianship is very good and the song writing is also top notch, although I would prefer a bit more melody in the vocal-lines at times. On the other hand, the band show that they have the ability to use variation within the songs, such as instrumental parts and more laid-back and atmospheric passages, which contribute to keep the listener interested. Although, the production could be better, you have to keep in mind this is only a demo and for a demo, the sound is good. I think this is a very solid demo with good songs, although one song stand out as an immediate favorite. Based on the material offered I am pretty convinced these guys will be signed in the near future and if they can keep the quality of these songs on a full album, and with only a few minor adjustments, we should be in for a treat. Fans of power metal and above-mentioned bands, such as Iced Earth, need to check this one out. This should be something for you.Spincity: 9/10"This Canadian quintet debuts here with a very solid three-track CD. The band plays power metal with progressive influences. All three songs are very catchy and are played very tight. The music consists out of some powerful melodic guitars, some inventive drum patrons and also the vocals are top notch. There are some moments in the music that will give a lot of power / thrash metal fans a spontaneous orgasm. Their lyrics are handling mainly about mythological topics. I wouldn't be surprised if this band gets picked up soon by a label. The production of these three songs is by the way very rich and heavy. Get this CD before Spelldown gets signed." WestSideDave: And so,that pox on the music world known as "Alternative" has breathed its` last! The time has come for REAL music [you KNOW what kind!] to bring us back to our senses;or,as is the case with this Quebec 5-piece,pound them into oblivion. And that`s EXACTLY what Spelldown does with their own brand of raging, screaming Power Metal! They manage to pull off in 3 songs what most bands mining the same territory take 3 albums [or more] to do! A winner from start to finish,Spelldown covers all the bases; production,song-writing,musicianship,vocals, everything is first class all the way!The epic "Necropolis","Clash of the Swords",and "Mount Olympus" all have that big, loud, wide open sound that any TRUE Power Metal act knows is pre-requisite in order to deliver the sound & fury this genre [and its` followers!] demands. This is one Spell you`ll DEFINTELY want to fall under!KILLER!!!!! Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles: 7 out of 10Spelldown cite Iced Earth, Nevermore and Gamma Ray as influences. They are also quite proud of the fact that they spend more then $7,000 to record and release this three songs demo. "CLASH OF THE SWORDS" is the best song Iron Maiden never wrote. It's got the galloping drum beat, duelling guitars, brilliant bass line and story-like vocals majestically sung by Sebastian Nudo. The power metal bookends of "MOUNT OLYMPUS and "NECROPOLIS" contain touches of trash that dazzle like lightning in the fiercest of thunderstorms....Metallian: 4 out of 6 (only due to the short lenght of the cd)Far then being their first full lenght album, Spelldown, from Quebec, send us a three songs EP for us to juge of their capacities. "Damnation from the Highest Point" is a cd you should not be ashame of having in your discography. Spelldown is a master of is own in the lyrical powerspeed metal. Between guitars clean on time and agressive on other, a perfect bass / drums duo and fabulous vocals, "Damnation from the Highest Point" raise high the flag of true metal, without giving this task only to other american, italian, german or bresilian bands... if you know what I'm saying!
