Artist History
The band MerKaBa was inspired by the ancient Egyptian word Merkaba, “Mer" meaning Light, "Ka" means Spirit, and "Ba" means Body -- Creating counter-rotating fields of Light as a vehicle to transport one’s spirit/Body from one dimension into another. Started by Richard “Wayo” Hogan, Alana Cini, Kevin Currie, and Geton Wolfe, the music of MerKaBa was borne to lift your spirits and transport you to another place. MerKaBa’s music is feel good rockin’ dance music--that really does lift your spirits. In 1998, MerKaBa brought in longtime collaborator, producer/engineer, bassist and songwriting partner, Steve Boyce. Although the Wayo and Kevin had worked together in previous bands, the chemistry with MerKaBa was immediate. The band members' unique and diverse talents blended together in a way that allowed them to take the music to the next level. The result was a new and totally unique sound. With an eclectic repertoire ranging from lyrical songsmithing and powerful harmonies, to out-of-this-world instrumentals. MerKaBa brings together the big sound of electrified and acoustic guitar, keyboards, flute, didgeridoo, bass, and drums and percussion. Although it is difficult to attach it to just one musical genre, it could be described as rock, pop and world beat! |

Press Reviews
"...this talented group may just set a new standard for the Seattle band sound. One to watch!" --New Music Weekly. "The combined efforts of this out of the ordinary group make up one complete circle of musical mysticism. I can picture the gods dancing in heaven now to Merkaba."- Keith “MuzikMan” Hannaleck, MusicDish (www.musicdish.com)"Recently, they have caught the attention of a quickly spreading interest in trance dance. Their inception of this sound is powerful!" -- Crossroads, The Folk, Roots & World Music Resource. "MerKaBa's tribal grooves will tap into your primitive side, while the didgeridoo and ambient effects fill your psychedelic ear with joy. Flute, acoustic guitar and vocals give it a genuine folk feel that is reminiscent of Folk-Rock bands of the 1960's. MerKaBa is eclectic, original and represent an awakening of experimental music on this continent. If you like World, Rock, Folk and Tribal Ambient music, your spirit will soar to the sounds of MerKaBa..." -- Matthew Moon, Crossroads Review |
