Artist History
Formed in mid-1996 after the violently abrupt 'artistic-differences' breakup of Upstate SC's premiere punk outfit Idle Minds by former 'Minds frontman/lead guitarist Heath "H-Bomb" Lane and his younger sister Kelli (rhythm guitar). Recruiting Dustin "Duck" Gilliam on bass and newly-discovered Patrick Durham on drums, the band set out to play their own original blend of rootsy-Americana, heavy rock and alternatively-flavored sounds.
Within a couple years, Kelli would leave the band and be unsuccessfully replaced by 2 other guitarists (one being a folk-primadonna with an ego the size of the Reedy River, the other a halfwitted coverband wannabe with a small penis). The band decided it would just remain a trio instead of pursuing a new guitarist, unless the ideal replacement fell from the sky.
The band played dozens of shows locally and across the region to audiences ranging from packed-houses to wait-staff-only, and with lukewarm to enthusiastic response. Then in mid-2001, Dustin left to pursue other personal goals and was immediately replaced by former guitarist Kelli (who'd never played bass, oddly enough). The band played some very successful shows in the area for a few months until Kelli was forced to quit by her significant other.
Replacing Kelli almost instantaneously in November 2001 was Jenn King. She came into the band knowing all the material Kelli knew (thanks to a little one-on-one tutorial), and even though the Fencejumpers are her first band, she has come a long way in this short time. In early 2003, Jenn's brother Daniel filled the thought-to-be-cursed rhythm guitar slot with surprising results. Some have even stated that the band is starting to hit it's peak now, and that they've never sounded better.
With a vivacious stage show, good original material and lots of personality, the band is finally slowly growing acceptance in this scene of cover-bands, nu/poo-metal/[c]rapcore groups and really lame wannabe punk-rockers/poppers. Patrick's tasteful-yet-primal drumming, Jenn's thundering bass and Daniel & Heath's razor-sharp twin guitar make for an aural experience that only they can offer. Add in the lustrous harmony-vocals and leather pants and you've got one helluva band! |
