    Artist History
Started writing music when student at USC Film School. Went on to form a multimedia performance group with friends from school. Trained as a producer for KPFK in LA. Apprenticed in technical theatre at the LA Actors Theatre and Garden Theatre Festival. Trained with the Groundling Theatre in improv. Worked with Cable News Network and Univision as a news/sports producer '81-89. Morning drive time host for KLDY AM 680 in Olympia, Washington. Developed a database of wildlife habitats that connected public and available for sale private for a 20 million dollar grant project for the Washington Wildlife Coalition, under Govs. Evans and Lowry. Worked the Hill in Congress '90 for Jolene Unsoeld. Served in the Peace Corps, Tchad, Africa '90-92. Taught Special Education in LA County, '92-97. Researched community-based rehabilitation at Projecto Piña Palmera, Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico. Courted Sharon Schoenhals in Beira, Moçambique '98. Hitched '99. Moved to Americus, where Sharon works with Habitat for Humanity as director of monitoring and evaluation. From 2000 through 2001, I taught special education in the Sumter Youth Development Campus operated by the Georgia Dept. of Juvenile Justice. My students were those with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. Sharon gave birth to Karol Dietrich Grant on July 18th. Named for Karol Wojtila and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, two modern saints whose lives stood against oppression. I earned my doctorate in international education policy and administration at the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California. I am skilled in Qualitative Research, specializing in the use of QSR NVivo and Nud*ist software packages. I can help you mine your artifacts and data for information and relationships that can reveal new indicators of performance. I stood for election in the local school board race and won 17% of the vote in a 4-way contest...To change a child’s life you can't change the child alone. You must change the culture, community and environment in which they grow. Therefore you can’t simply change what happens in the classroom, you have to work on all the variables. Very difficult, but it can be done, over time, as a member of a team. We have moved to Rio Vista, California; a small community on the river just southwest of Sacramento. I will be working with the Solano County Office of Education to help students with technology that assists them in living successfully in our crazy world. I write and produce music and stories not just for dreams of success, but to have a balanced life. I think we have to explore all the areas of expression, physical, creative, emotional and intellectual. I hope people will take these modest efforts and find inspiration to recreate the parlor culture of the previous centuries, where everyone in the room had something to offer at a gathering. I thank MP3 for creating the greatest democratic art movement in history. I invite other folks to join with me in the internet house concert here. I’d love to have the opportunity to swap files and create new music within this unique dynamic. Take Care, DK
