Artist description
Let me introduce myself to you. I'm the COAL MINERS DAUGHTER’S DAUGHTER, CISSIE LYNN, and I'd like to tell you just a few things about myself, things I've done while traveling and playing country music. I hope by the time you read this that you'll feel as if you've known me forever.I was born in Bellingham, WA, to Mooney and Loretta Lynn. We moved to Tennessee when Mama started singing country music. We attended several schools and moved several times while I was little, but finally made our home in Hurricane Mills, TN, which I call home.I guess growing up I never thought much about singing. Goodness, how could I with a mother so great and wonderful as LORETTA LYNN, and an aunt also great as CRYSTAL GAYLE. I guess I thought it would be insane to attempt such a career move, but I guess it was in the cards because here I am singing country music and loving it very much. You know, I feel it’s very hard on entertainer’s kids to get in this business because you are judged lots of times before you ever open your mouth. I think I have been very lucky because the LYNN name is so highly respected, thanks to Daddy and Mama, that it helps get my foot in the door, but Lord, if I can’t hold my own it will shut very quickly. I think that God watches over me very close because since I’ve been on my own I have worked very steady, and I hope and believe I have given people some good, clean, entertaining country music. Before going out on my own, I traveled with Mama for a year and a half; I loved every minute of it. We played at the Kennedy Center and I even got to meet GENE AUTRY; what a great honor that was. I went to GERMANY and EGYPT; a dream so many people would love to have come true. I stood in the GREAT CIRCLE at the GRAND OLE OPRY and sang. I went to my first casino and played nickel slot machines and sang. I went to coliseums, fairs, and clubs. I’d say it was probably about the best year and a half of my life, and a lot of it was all the things I got to see and do, but the best part was being with Mama because that was when I really got to know her. I can tell you today she is my best friend and, I love and respect her for all the things she has done, but most of all the things she has given up for us. At least when we were young, we always had each other, (us kids) and my Daddy. He was always there for us. I was my Daddy’s baby, and in my eyes will remain that always. He’s such a great man. He also spent so many nights alone. He always worked himself to death. He always made his own way and expected us to do the same. He wanted us to be able to survive in the world by ourselves, and I understand and respect him for that. That’s why I’m always tried my hardest to make him proud of me, the way I am of them.Since being on my own, I’ve sung at clubs, fairs, theaters, campaigns, and festivals; just wherever anyone would let me sing. We started traveling from one end of the United States to the other and also Canada. I know when a person comes to see our show, they want to see if I’m anything like Mama, but usually before the night is over, they have decided they like me also; that makes me feel great. I feel then that they have accepted me. That’s the most wonderful feeling in the world to be accepted for you.I’ve had the honor of meeting and playing for some great people. In fact, one of them was the President of our United States, President George Bush. I don’t think that there is a higher honor than playing for the President of this great country.Well, I hope I haven’t bored you too much. I could have gone on and on, and I’m sure I have left our so much, but at least maybe you will see I’m just a country girl who loves to sing country music. Oh, by the way, I also like to talk as you can see, but then what country person doesn’t!! Love, Cissie Lynn |
