Artist History
The four girls of Athens, GA's Jackpot City first came together in late 1997, each with an already impressive musical resume. Mamie Fike (vocals, violins, keyboards) was previously with the Chickasaw Mudd Puppies and Asa Nisi Masa, both produced by R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe. Kelly Noonan (vocals, guitar, bass) runs a local recording studio, Suite Sixteen, and is perhaps best known for her work with Billy James, produced by R.E.M. member Mike Mills. Kathy Kirbo (vocals, guitar, bass) previously with Purr and Greenhouse, also produced by Mike Mills of R.E.M., Jeff Walls of Guatal Canal Diary and Dave Barbe of Sugar. Alice Grayson (drums, percussion) hails from Mobile, AL where she performed with A.M. Radio and Sugarfix. JPC's catchy array of songs were quickly noticed by Dave Schools of Wide Spread Panic and he produced their demo at the studio of the legendary producer, John Keane-R.E.M. Cowboy Junkies, Indigo Girls, etc. |

Press Reviews
"Super-melodic, hard rockin' pop music. Big Star meets the Pretenders meets the Kinks." -- Ballard Lesemann, Flagpole Magazine, "We caught four or five tunes from Jackpot City whose music conjures up images of the Runaways, the Breeders, and even the B-52's. Solid memorable, rocking music form four experienced musicians."--Jeff W. Marker, MTV Online, "Jackpot City is a shiny section of Athens, GA. Their cd takes you tumbling down a winding road to get to the gold"-- T. Anderson, Performer Magazine,"That's the real mojo working for this band; all three frontwomen can sing and harmonize, so that the vocal blending is as captivating as the rock and roll behind it." -- Aaron Parrett, Flagpole Magazine"These eclectic femmes put together an impressive sound with nice harmonies and killer guitar riffs... While they rule the local rock roost, their songs stretch from an incredible number of genres and times." -- Richard Stenger, CNN Interactive |
