Artist History
The Gelatin Boys is the story of three nice boys trying to forget how to play as hard as they can. It's the tale of a backdoor discovery of the music of Iggy Pop, Pavement, and the Velvet Underground. The Gelatin Boys are the immortal children wanting to see the world through innocent eyes again.
The brainchild of bassist Dan Shuman and Swedish guitar God Lars Aakesson, the Gelatin Boys is New York City Rock served up with a very unique twist. Whereas most punk-oriented musicians might eventually discover jazz and more "musiciany" music in some sort of logical "progression", for lack of a better word, the Gelatin Boys' musical evolution is nothing short of pure regression. They grew up wanting jazz school and gigs. They got them. Turns out it wasn't what they wanted.
Dan and Lars met in Paterson, New Jersey studying jazz. They had rock fantasies but kept them in the closet. It was agonizing to repress such desires that the duo wouldn't fulfill until years later in Shuman's Brooklyn apartment where they began secretly clunking out catchy and weird pop songs. In 1999 they recorded a short demo that caught the attention of drummer Howard Karp, Shuman's roommate at the time. In the Spring of 2000 the trio began playing live at venues such as Acme Underground, the Sidewalk Café and the Baggot Inn, where they had a four month weekly residence during the following fall. During the winter the group delighted observers at Chelsea's 7:01 Studios, a mildly seedy loft space. A menacing and delicious live force, the band has earned a reputation for providing a performance that is strong musically with fun-filled banter and just the right touch of improvisation. The Boys were participants in Garageband.com’s "12 Bands of Christmas" contest as one of 12 bands from New York to "compete" locally. They have been compared to literally dozens of bands including Guided by Voices, the Stooges, Pavement, the Cramps, the Minutemen, the Breeders, Alice Donut, the Pixies and Black Flag.

Press Reviews
The Gelatin Boys' first full-length recording is called "Beware of the Gelatin Boys" and will be released independently in late January. In his review of the record, Bill Ribas of NYRock.com said, "the Gelatin Boys are a quirky, punk progressive outfit that is surprisingly easy to listen to... Too wacky for words, but too fun to pass on."
