Artist History
The Queeweed came to life sometime in 1987 - 88, originally named ”Queer” (in the meaning of ”strange” or ”weird”). The first recordnings were made using an overdub technique. It involved multiple cassette recorders, lots of cables and an immense loss of sound quality for every overdub being made. Instruments used by The Queeweed over the years include Yamaha CS-10, Yamaha Rex-50, Boss DR-220, Casio CZ-1, electric guitar, fuzz wah pedal, cut-ups, harmonica, metal sheets, plastic bottles etc etc. In 1989, I obtained a Tascam Porta One 4-channel recorder, and changed the band name, first to ”Queer Hippies On Weed”, then finally to The Queeweed, a mix of the words ”Queer” and ”Seaweed”. Seaweed was my friend’s band and we did many collaborations together. The name change occured when Seaweed joined as a part of The Queeweed’s live line-up (see photo on top of this page). The Queeweed appeared on radio in Sweden and other european countries on several occasions. The band was also mentioned and reviewed in many underground publications, including Maximum Rock’n’Roll (issue no 95): ”...grinds with a techno noise crunch as if Kraftwerk lost all hope and switched to pure adrenalin and guitars...” On mp3.com you will find the five songs that were released on vinyl during the years 1990-92, PLUS the remixed version of ”I Love You”, entitled ”I Loathe You”. I was aged 15 - 18 years old when I wrote and performed The Queeweed’s songs. My main influence was Big Black. Please forgive me :) DISCOGRAPHY (may be incomplete): ”Han Svalde en Strumpa?”, seven tracks, nEGABEAT 001 (Sweden), cassette, 1989 - ”Koraktor”, two tracks, nEGABEAT 003 (Sweden), cassette, 1989 - ”Skrotrondan”, twelve tracks, nEGABEAT 004 (Sweden), cassette, 1989 - ”Noise Escape”, ten tracks, LUNE PROD 4 (France), cassette, 1989 - ”The Essential Embrocation of Freedom”, one track, LIMUR PROD 1 (Sweden), cassette, 1989 - ”I Love You”, two tracks, Big Brothel Condominium (Sweden), 7” vinyl single, 1990 - ”Lantvisor”, one track, Börft Records (Sweden), LP vinyl album, 1991 - ”Enfants Terribles”, two tracks, nEGABEAT 005 (Sweden), LP vinyl album, 1992 - ”The Swedish Atlas King”, one track, Börft Records/Atlas King (Sweden/USA), cassette, 1993 - ”Finest Queeweed Blend”, twelve tracks, nEGABEAT 006 (Sweden), cassette, 1993. |
