Artist History
Originally a fanzine begun in 1992, RALPH, was the creation of designer/poet Ralph Alfonso. The band followed after CBC Radio (the national Canadian broadcaster) invited Ralph on their popular morning show to read his poetry. Ralph opted to bring some musicians along and the reaction was so phenomenal that the segment ran for over 30 minutes and generated over 300 letters from listeners as a result. The trio decided to play live gigs and 3 cds followed, in addition to several cross-Canada tours and Top 20 on the Canadian college charts for all cds. Ralph has also appeared in San Diego, New York, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. A new cd is expected in Fall, 2000, "This Is For The Night People". The first 25 issues of the RALPH fanzine have been collected into a book, "Coffee, Jazz and Poetry" (Water Row Books, USA). |
