Artist History
Lynn Callihan’s music has been described as “The perfect mixture of Folk, Rock and Blues.” As an acoustic guitarist, Callihan adds many years of blended influences that combine with his velvety, smoky vocals and harp. His style rolls into the Quasi-jazz blues-rock that he is known for today.“I look at writing music as a melting pot,” says Callihan. “My style is acoustic based, but I’d be lying if I’d said Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Jerry Gracia, didn’t have an incredible influence on my style of writing. Now throw in some Michael Hedges, John Prine and David Bromburg, and strip them of their major label contracts and financial backing and boil it for about a decade and you come up with a sound that’s similar to mine.”Born to a factory man and his wife and raised in a small Michigan town, Lynn Callihan’s passion for music comes from his paternal grandfather. Lynn's grandfather played several instruments in his youth but by the time Lynn developed an interest in music, arthritis had destroyed his grandfathers ability to play. “I remember I had just purchased my first guitar from working several jobs paper route, dishwashing, mowing lawns” states Callihan, “It was an Alvarez DY-76. I was so proud of that guitar. The day I bought it, I took it over to my grandfather’s house I played it for him for hours. It must have been horrible for him to listen to me bang on the guitar, but the whole time I was performing for him he kept telling me never to stop playing music. His words to me rang true when halfway through my life, I realized that only time I am complete is when I have a guitar in my hand and a song in my head.” Lynn has been the featured musician on the internationally syndicated Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, as well as the two live Internet appearances on the Digital Domain. He has been a popular performer at the city of Covington Kentucky’s largest festival, Maifest for the past three years. Lynn has also appeared at the world famous Bluebird Café.Lynn has released two discs under his label, Snail Trail Records. His first CD, Closer to Fossil was released in 1996 and distributed locally. The next release, Through My Window followed in 1999 and received international response through marketing and promotion from his website and shows. He is currently in his studio recording his next disc, which he projects the release to be in the winter of 2000.Lynn has found his niche in the music industry. His songs and music is his form of self-expression. He is a master at creating spacious, exotic textures around well-written songs. He continues growing and improving as a singer, but his style remains timeless. |

Press Reviews
"Lynn Callihan subverts the acoustic commonplace with his 1999 album 'Through My Window'. Backed by the diverse input of Hector Acuna and drummer Derek Cammack, Lynn produces a full sounding album with a spectrum of acoustic guitar stylings. From the standard folk songs to smoky grooves to soulful blues, Lynn rarely misses. His voice tends to be a little raw at times but is articulate and intelligible, accomplishing half the battle. His voice comes across with soul and heart and rarely makes you feel as if the subject matter is forced upon you. The lyrics on this disc vary from endearing ballads to absolute quirk. The ballad 'Sara' is a touching lament about a friend who has fallen from grace. On the smoky track, 'Those Were The Days', Lynn shows us his bluesier side." Steve Mattews, Cincymusic.com "Lynn Callihan- Sweet guitar rifts, harp and lyrics that certainly give something for the thinking man to ponder." Ed Pierce, The Digital Domain |
