Artist description
The orchestration and the exploration of etnic & classical sounds are Giancarmine Arena's quality. Born in 1961 in the South of Italy and then moved to Milan in 1980 where he took his piano diploma with full marks at the "G. Verdi " Conservatory in 1987. He continued studying composition at the Conservatory and attended the Musicology course at the University of Bologna (DAMS). As part of his studies he carried out research in the field of ethnic music. He attended jazz masterclasses in Siena in 1985 where he developed his technique in improvisation and jam sessions. Alongside his studies he took his first steps as a professional in 1982 when he started cooperating with video production companies and advertising agencies composing jingles for commercials. The best known one is for "SECTOR" watches that was broadcast all over the world for six years. His latest advertising productions include "SEIKO" (AWARDED THE 1st PRIZE FOR MUSIC AT THE "1/2 MINUTO D'ORO CONTEST" 1998), "BARILLA" (broadcasting in Europe and United States). He has performed as a soloist pianist with a repertoire ranging from Scott Joplin's ragtimes to Chopin's Nocturnes and he has cooperated with jazz musicians (Giorgio Gaslini - music for stories by Sergio Tofano recorded on CD) and contemporary composers (Carlo Boccadoro - music for ballet for LA SCALA THEATRE). He has also arranged and produced music for records featuring Italian singers. |
