Artist History
The creative force behind R&B band SHAI returns after a nearly five year hiatus with his debut solo effort, aptly entitled "The Resurrection". After writing the RIAA-certified gold singles "Comforter", "Baby I'm Yours", "The Place Where You Belong", and the multiplatinum classic "If I Ever Fall In Love", Carl Martin toured with the band he co-founded for four years. Afterward, he needed a break. "I was mentally and emotionally exhausted. I knew I needed some time away to rejuvenate my love for music." He found it in the theater. Martin enrolled in the reknown American Conservatory Theater (Denzel Washington/Winona Ryder)in San Francisco to study acting. "That was the best thing for me at the time. It gave me a moment to reflect on the previous few years and figure out what to do next." During this time, his bandmates moved on. "I had no problem with SHAI continuing to function. They had to continue on with their lives and do what was best for them. It's my turn now." Indeed it is. Carl returns as C!Martin with a stellar effort that will certainly generate the kind of excitement he is used to. THE RESURRECTION shines with variety. From the street-edged beauty of "You Are My Love", featuring rap diva Shaunta (Brandy/Timbaland & Magoo), to the bedroom falsetto of "Out of Me, Into You", C! re-establishes himself as one of the most innovative songwriter/producer/artists in contemporary music today. A definite must hear. Download a sample now. |
