Artist description
The BASIC PRINCIPLE governing The Greys sound was first understood by Dr. Petra de Branges in her 1999 survey article "GUE-Statistics in Quantum Chaos, Psycho-Acoustics and Number Fields": "Tuning to the spectra typically found in quantum chaotic systems that do not possess time-reversal symmetry, the Greys succeed in creating haunting dissonances called "ghost frequencies" that, unlike classical consonance, induce a kind of seductive finger which compels the ear to "lean into" the music. In this regard, they were the first to introduce the rich symmetries of GUE-statistics into psycho-spectroscopic analysis." What IS known about The Greys? • They are based in Madras and New York. • They consist of a core of 2 members ("drums" and "guitar"), with a rotating front of "guest subjects". • They create music that is "instantaneous-real" (i.e. improvised), using quantized tunings to alter the behavior of and/or read off the psycho-spectral data of their subjects. |
