Artist description
"On their debut recording, Helmshore EP, The Factory Incident draws upon outwardly disparate influences and seamlessly combines them into a sound distinctly their own. The primary sources seem to be the atmospherics of shoegaze and the angularity of post-punk, but these are merely points of reference (not sonic blueprints). The emphasis is on evoking mood and atmosphere through songwriting rather than mere soundscaping, excess gimmickry or stylistic pastiche. The overall sound is a subtle but always powerful balance of airiness and aggression that keeps the melodies, vocal/instrumental interplay and individuality of the songs distinct while allowing less-obvious influences such as dream-pop and 80's indie rock to filter through. The result is a strikingly varied yet cohesive release -- three memorable songs that seem to shift in mood with every listen. Helmshore EP suggests the band is capable of making any style its own, and only hints at what is to follow." |
