Artist History
Born in southeastern Wisconsin in the winter of 1996, Jason Sheridan and Charlie Victor teamed up with bass player, Mr. Quin Stickler. As the band evolved over the next several years they would endure a constant revolving door of drummers that eventually would put the brakes on the band. But even with the fate of Tasty Wanton looking grim, Jason and Charlie continued to write and perfect their craft. After receiving a call from Quin in the fall of 2000 and constant pressure from friends and family they decided it was time to try it again, this time as an unplugged acoustic trio. This was great for awhile. But all things must evolve. This is when the exceptional talents of Joe Sheehan on guitar were added in 2001. This was also great for awhile. It became obvious they were still missing something. Once again they opened up the revolving door of drummers until they met one that liked what they were doing and could see beyond the small time local scene. That person was Shawn Tallard and with this lineup the band has been rock solid. |

Press Reviews
Tasty Wanton --Lisa Hileman - RIFTrock.com
The Legendary Brat Stop, Kenosha, WI Saturday, June 21, 2003
Formed in 1996, Tasty Wanton began building their blend of rock through carefully constructed movements. Their intricately layered sound at times strikes cords of recognition with the likes of Dave Matthews Band, but is still distinctively their own. Blending a hint of funk, a dash of the classics, and a steady diet of rock, the group reflects their own unique sound and style. Encouraging people to get out of their seats and move their feet they make a connection to their audience. Carefree and fun loving seems to best express the attitude they bring to the stage.
Laid back is also a good descriptive for this group. Charlie Victor (vocals) seemed completely at ease on the stage and gave their audience the feeling of witnessing a band practice more than a show. At one point, he sat on the edge of the high-rise stage and sang directly to those dancing a foot away, proving that he is at home on the stage and knows the value of connection. He also climbed atop the drum riser and “assisted” Shawn Tallard (drums) with his symbol work, a look of glee fixed on his face. His enthusiasm and enjoyment was contagious
The band also brought professionalism to the stage that is clearly a gift that only time and experience can give. Shrugging of some minor technical difficulties with feedback and monitors, they continued through their lengthy set as if nothing was amiss. Playing off each other, very aware of the necessary connection between them, they took the minor difficulties in stride and had fun with their set and their audience.
Their set included several covers that were extremely well done and equally well received. Though I was a little surprised by the number of them that they performed, I enjoyed every one of them and at the end of the show completely understood the need for them as they had played a very long set. Their own songs were ripe with meaning and feeling. Demonstrating a band as good at playing as writing, the multi-dimensional layering of sound should prove to be as pleasing on disc as in person.
The crowd that did not attend the plethora of local seemed to revel in the diversity of their set and filled the dance floor with numerous bodies. Many seemed to have skipped the yearly parties specifically to attend their show and reflected a familiarity with their style and music. This is a band with a loyal following that will only grow as their listener recognition and venue locations spread out.
Local Band Serves Up Tasty Music
- Jeff Stevens-9/13/02 Kenosha News
A study of the word "wanton" can direct you a couple of ways: The word can indicate merciless cruelty or immorality, or it can suggest an abundance of playful frolics. In the case of local band Tasty Wanton, their music helps you qualify the intent of the name- it is frolicsome and abundantly upbeat.
The syncopated intros of the rhythm guitar serve as a preamble to the delivery of each song. One can't help but think of The Dave Matthews Band when listening.
I haven't seen this band live, but I feel confident in stating that it must be an energizing experience. With two-part harmonies garnishing the verses and completing each chorus, the vocals reminded me a bit of the band Extreme.
The band is in the middle of recording a new CD in Madison.
