Artist description
Weaving lyrics about life's joy's and sorrows with a singular eye for detail as vivid as her vocal delivery, Kate's music is at once intensely beautiful and purposeful. She elicits an incredible range of emotions from casual listeners and diehard fans alike. As subjective an experience as listening is, her appeal is universally felt wherever she sings. That she has earned the respect of her peers so rapidly and in such an apparently effortless way speaks volumes about her determination to make the most of this "second chance" she's now living. -Guy-Michael Grande. |

Press Reviews
From The Hartford Advocate (12/28/00)...This melodic, folksy record of well-written tunes is very professionally recorded. It features some prominent musicians, namely her father, veteran jazz pianist Lee Callahan, and tenor saxophonist Joel Frahm. On the title track, "The Influence of Red," the sax adds a wonderful backing harmony to her voice. "In the Snow" has a guitar intro which overlays throughout the song, and a trumpet solo from Tom Goehring that is ethereally distant. The imagery in her lyrics is deeply poetic...Callahan's insticts are mature for a young woman and her heart has clearly been tapped. As a survivor of a severe skiing accident that left her recovering from a brain injury for three years, this CD is an amazing accomplishment. Sometimes, one of the benefits of a tragedy is that it gives us the power to heal, regenerate and transform ourselves... -India Blue |
