Artist History
Two University of Texas students, at the crux of a series of friendly debates about music, became the founding voices of Schrödinger's Cat. "We thought that music in general was a cyclic, repetitive beast. It needed something fresh. We wanted to take a sub-pop art form and expand it, reinvigorate it. Everything else had already been done and redone ad nauseam: Techno, 80's, Boy bands, Heavy Metal, Glam rock. We wanted to move music into a truly alternative realm - ORGANIC." With this in mind, John Pointer and Lester Chiu set out to revitalize the musical genre of a cappella. Not only did they meet this goal, they exceeded it by creating their own style of music. They dubbed this hybrid of stomp, a cappella, vocal and body percussion "Big Beat A Cappella." No instrumentation. All Organic. Is this possible? Will people want to watch? Yes it is. And yes they do. Immensely popular on campus, the group/band set out to make an indelible impression on the live music capital of the world - Austin, Texas. Meeting and convincing a lot of apprehensive club owners to take a chance on them, Schrödinger's Cat went on to pack houses and impress all who would see them. An a cappella group in a club? Doubtful. In time however, all the naysayers were silenced. Since their auspicious performance on the Roseanne Barr show, they have gone on to perform in every well known venue in Austin, tour extensively throughout the United States including Alaska, and have completed two tours to Japan. Their first album, "Big Beat A Cappella" is comprised of an eclectic mix of covers. John Pointer the musical director explains, " We wanted to introduce our style by performing something familiar in an unfamiliar way." Now with their reputation firmly established the band is finishing up their second album composed exclusively of originals. Each member of Schrödinger's Cat comes from a variety of diverse musical backgrounds. Providing them the ability to imitate a variety of sounds and instruments. Their versatility and musicianship is unparalleled. These musicians stand poised to truly be the next big thing. You must see them to believe what you are hearing, and once you've seen S-Cat, you will understand the addiction. |

Press Reviews
"Last weekend I went to the most fantastic concert. It was a competition of a cappella groups. My favorite group was called Schršdinger's Cat. They simply said, 'Hi, we're from Austin Texas, we're called Schršdinger's Cat, and this is Big Beat A Cappella.' They had such a commanding and earthy and visceral presence. They all, exactly simultaneously hit the stage with a loud thump with their feet, and then proceeded to just take over the stage! Wow! Out comes a powerful mixture of funk, African tribal music, and a cappella. Their presence on stage was physical, close to the Earth, sensual, sexy, and very assertive. It was VERY compelling. This band deserves to be heavily supported just on their innovation and risk taking ALONE!" - Jim Ellison, reviewing the Chicago Regional Harmony Sweepstakes...
