    Press Reviews
"Mike and Dave" Provide Entertainment, Raise Funds: by Jessica Moran, Index Contributor You might not expect the famously over-stressed, sleep-deprived students here at K to be singing that "Everything's fine in Kalamzoo." But on Friday, April 26th, nearly 100 of them were singing it conviction. Why? Because their RA's asked them to. Mike Vasas and David Poytinger, both RA's in Crissey Hall, played their second Quadstop Concert this quarter on April 25th. The show that was advertised with pictures of ninja cats and one very excited cactus was just as unconventional as the fliers suggested. They sang about everything, from bizarre animal encounters to multigenerational love affairs... ...Vasas' set included original songs and covers as well. His flexible voice stayed strong throughout a set that included rap, country, folk, a punk medley, and even Disney. The second of three sing-a-longs was "Not in Nottingham" from Walt Disney's Robin Hood. Vasas' set showcased his songwriting abilities and self-assured guitar playing. He acknowledged the influence of others on his writing before playing "Basically Trying." "I think I owe a little credit to Mr. Bob Dylan on this one," he said. His songs alternated between heartbreak and hilarity. "Answering Machine" was about a rough break-up, while his satirical cover of the Dave Matthew's Band song, "Crash," quoted Sisqo's "The Thong Song" and also contained the lyric: "This part is really corny/but it makes you horny." The audience responded to the music and between-song banter with shouts of encouragement, laughter and attentive silence in all the right places. "It was a great break from the horrors of K-College," said first-year Nikiah Barnes. "One of the best performances by Mike and Dave I've seen yet." What Mike and Dave communicated to their audience Friday night was that they really loved music. -taken from Kalamazoo College's Index, (a student newspaper) May 9-15.
