Artist History Formed in 1990, ELETRIC ZOO began as a group devoted to improvisation. The music consisted of extended jams, originals, and cover songs from bands such as the Grateful Dead, Steely Dan, and the Allman Brothers. As the band evolved, jazz, Latin rhythms, and funk grooves were incorporated into their sound.Eight years later, they recorded their first studio album titled: Open Shore. This marked a significant milestone for the band as it represents their songwriting abilities combined with improvised studio jams. The songs were recorded live in the studio with the intent of capturing the energy and spontaneous musical interaction of a live performance. Overdubs were reserved primarily for vocals and additional percussion instruments.ELETRIC ZOO has performed extensively in the upstate New York region and has shared the bill with Rusted Root, Spyro Gyra, Max Creek, and Merl Saunders to name a few.
