Artist description
Violet Skin is a four-piece indie rock band from Ferndale, Michigan formed in October of 1999 by singer/guitarist, Katie Janness. Musically, Violet Skin combines crunchy rhythms with melodic overtones; a flowing mixture of punk and pop. Violet Skin's song structures both celebrate and deviate from conventional rock styles, keeping audience members in suspense about what they might hear next. A well-balanced and diverse line up, each member of Violet Skin operates on a broad continuum of experience, ability, and creativity. |

Press Reviews
review of kabuki from Real Detroit Weekly:
Constantly interweaving guitars, one clean bouncy melody line and one fuzzy power chords. Occasionally interweaving vocal melodies, one plainly spoken and one breathlessly sung. Choruses with great lyrics competing with each other to be my favorite: "Don't f**k with me like that again," or "I got a fetish...to satisfy." Solid and interesting drumbeats best suited for a big room. No, not Sleater-Kinney, this is Violet Skin from Detroit: four girls with tasty and energetic songs that make me wish I had a nice big American-made convertible so I could tool down the highway with "Kabuki" playing loudly. This is earnest, lo-fi punk rock at its most melodic, with some Nirvana choruses, Daisy Chainsaw vocal stylings, and yes, the Sleater-Kinney milieu. I'm interested to see how this band matures, they've got a lot of potential. Hit Picks: "Pez" and "Raccoon Eyes".
