Artist History
The Square Egg is an electrifying combination of musical composition and lyrical dynamics. They wish not to be confined to a particular genre of music. Though the framework for their musical style is submerged in rap, funk, r & b and jazz, the musical texture of The Square Egg is decidedly as eclectic as their name. Each of the musicians brings a particular style to the band that makes it unmistakably danceable and melodic. Their music is widely accepted and continues to gain larger and more diverse audiences. Influenced by such groundbreaking artists as Quincy Jones, Common, John Coltrane, Janeıs Addiction, De La Soul, Herbie Hancock, and Prince, to name a few. This ensemble is rich in talent and diversity. Their music is a blend of soulful rhythms and intelligent, accessible lyrics. The Square Egg conveys simplistic ideals that challenge the listener as well as entertain. Their song Daydream moves through an achievable utopian society while offering a musical blend rich in jazzy overtones. Another of their songs, Feels Like Summer, was featured in the Burdines Fall Back To School Ad Campaign for 2000. It is a truly catchy tune that touches on the nostalgic feelings awakened by memories of ³true love². Their song Seven Days was also used in promotional spots for the ABC Network. Seven Days was featured in advertisements for The Drew Carey Show, Two Guy and A Girl and Dharma and Greg. Local music writer/ producer, Aaron Fishbein along with Lee and long time Straight Coffee For George collaborator, Brian Campbell, produced The Square Eggıs independent release titled Rediscovering The Art Of Living. The 7-song EP has received rave reviews. The follow up, which is also an independent release, is title A Segue 2 Grits Nı Eggs. The bandıs new release is its first full length. It shows the development of the band and their musical growth. They will no doubt receive the same reception with their newest release. In the year that has passed since the bandıs inception, they have conquered new territory and tested the boundaries of hip-hop and soul music. Their talent and fresh approach to music have afforded them the luxury of performing at some of Miamiıs most diverse venues. This is evident in the fact that they have performed with such acts as Boyz II Men, Luther Vandross, Innosense and the group O-Town, from the ABC television show Making The Band. Whether sounding out obscure jazz riffs or grooving funky r & b lines, The Square Eggıs tones are universally appealing. Their mature musical efforts twist the eardrum on a journey that counters the apathetic approach of most modern music. Challenging color barriers, generation gaps and stereotypical thinking, The Square Eggıs music is decidedly as unique as their name implies. For those who dare to listen, they are in for an adventure. |
