Artist History
I met Ethan Phelps when we became roommates at the University of Connecticut in 1997. We both played the guitar and enjoyed listening to similar music. We met fellow student/musician, Michael "Muffler" Kostiuk, in the spring of 1998. When school started in the fall, the three of us started playing together... Muffler on bass, Ethan and I on guitar.
We mostly played covers of our favorite bands (Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc.). Then one fateful night, during one of our impromptu jam sessions, Ethan started playing this really heavy riff. I remember thinking, "Man this is the heaviest riff I've ever heard!". Muffler wrote some lyrics and I came up with a little solo... within about 20 minutes we had written our first song - Midnight Avenger. From that point on we had aspirations of forming Some Band.
All we needed was a drummer and Some Band would be complete. In the fall of 1999, we asked our friend Douglas Seitz to play drums for us. We had jammed with him before (however, he was always playing his guitar... not his drums). We started playing with Doug, but somehow we could never all practice together. In fact, the first time the four of us ever played together was at a small coffee house - our debut performance. After that performance we knew that our band was complete. Till then we had called ourselves Some Band for lack of a better name... but the name grew on everyone so much that we decided to keep it.
