Artist History
"Eye Contact" was initiated in '97 and a few cassette recordings were passed on. As the dubs made their way throughout the planet, many began to notice that what they heard was not the same old beat & rhyme, assembly line, tailored for the deaf, dumb and blind, type of sound. Blackspot felt the VIBE and it was laid out amongst the glittering pages of the new rap lifestyle. |

Press Reviews
March 1998 in Vibe Magazine "Subterranean Spotlight" -- Second generation hip hoppers may think that the music is still about making cake. Bear in mind, though, that there's one thing you can't rent for a recording session: battle skills. These particular brain tools back up all the chest-beating antics and ego exhibitions that rap fans have grown so masochistically used to. This month's column is dedicated to all the battle radicals who can throw down lyrically in combat. Our first warrior comes from the placid plains of Ohio, by way of St. Petersburg, Russia. But don't let Serge Boogie's origins (or his mild-mannered name) fool you into underestimating some seriously swift mikesmanship. Throughout Serge's homemade, undistributed EP, Eye Contact, the Ruski roughneck confidently molds paragraphs into complicated weapons of crass destruction. His hilarious skewering of the rap game, "Gimpology 101," refers to a hapless rap nemesis as "the hip-hop David Hasselhoff / Blowing up in Germany." Poor guy. |
