Press Reviews
That confidence has since pushed him center stage and into the glare of the neon as opening act for some of Music Row’s finest: Lonestar,Faith Hill’s hubby Tim McGraw, Doug Stone, and other country luminaries. The 27-year-old singer has just released his deluxe debut disk, Right About Now (Universal Sounds Records) to critical applause. Dapper country music veteran and owner of the sharpest pencil-thin moustache in the business, Universal Records boss T. Jae Christian is thrilled. "When I see this much desire and potential, I can’t turn my back on it," he says, "if I can help good talent, that’s what I’m about." Allen’s voice has a drawl and a clarity that distinctly separates him from a million other music-tossed cowboys. The song selection on thisten-track debut respects a voice-pushing oral boundaries without strain or effort. The mix of ballads and hard-nosed rockers floodlights a talent comfortable with his surroundings. The tedious song search for the CD unearthed some fat musical nuggets for Allen’s impressive unveiling. Hard-edged Nashville song stylist,Larry Boone, nails the tempo tight with the opening rocker and title-track, "Right About Now". White Schafer, the George Strait tunesmith, provides "Where Love Started Out". The song, a passion-stained heart burner, is a standout two-stepper for cold nights. Lonnie Wilson drainsthe emotions with an out pouring of sentiment, heartache, and despair on "All Time Low". Allen milks the song, ideal for the recently divorced alone on the weekend, for all of its soulful worth. Other standout tracks include "John Deere Letter" and the Gary Vukasin-penned "Are You With Me On This", a track made for air-guitarvirtuosos. A knockout entrance into the world of country music makes Lance Allen a hot contender for Music Row and CMT attention — right about now. Review by George Peden / CountryReview.com |
