I mean, we were born in a crossfire hurricane. Then a beautiful woman said to us, "what is your fucking problem?" Since then we play love songs, nothing but love songs.
    Artist History
Alec and Mike met in Syracuse, New York in the early '80s, and have been playing bass and drums and stuff in various formations ever since - including 1987's MTV Basement Tapes winners THE HUNGRY DUTCHMEN. Joel, of the TORPEDOS and THE SHREDDERS, met Mike & Alec in the waning days of that band, and the three have been friends and sometimes-collaborators ever since. Mike. also known as MJB (and, more recently, Cloud), has been recording and releasing his own music for over a decade. Mike also produced the Junkbunny tracks for his label, Semper Lofi Recordings.Alec plays in BITE THE WAX GODHEAD, performs the occasional solo acoustic gig, and was the associate producer and liner-note writer for Rhino Records' LOOK OF LOVE Box Set of the music of Burt Bacharach. Meanwhile, Joel, who is not related to Burt as far as we know, currently releases his own CDs - check out JOEL BACHRACH AND FRIENDS, why don't you! - and also plays in his new band, THE BOX.

    Press Reviews
"Here's proof that it's possible to make 'jangly guitar pop' without sounding like every other band on the block. Junkbunny teams Alec Cumming, Joel Bachrach and Semper LoFi honcho Michael J. Bowman, creating a thoroughly capable trio whose playing is infectiously fun. It's obvious that these guys have played together before; their easy rapport gives their songs the loose, informal spontaneity of a basement jam session. While some of the early tracks sport Elephant 6-style musical and lyrical eccentricities, the later songs establish a quasi new-wave sound that's like little else out there. Each player seems comfortable with guitar, keyboards and vocals, making for a broad and pleasing musical palette. All you wanna-be home recorders should learn a lesson from this -- it's okay to know how to play your instruments! Only the recording itself needs to be lo-fi." (George Zahora, Splendidzine, 1/15/01)"Bright and bouncy Junkbunny is a marvelous mating of three of my fave lo-fi popsters: Alec Cumming (vocals, bass, guitar, Casio) late of Bite The Wax Godhead; Michael J. Bowman (drums, vocals, guitars, Casio, computer), who records as MJB and Cloud; and Joel Bachrach (vocals, keyboards, guitar). The trio are longtime friends -- Cumming and Bowman were both in The Hungry Dutchmen, back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth -- and it's easy to hear how much fun they had making Bump. Dare I say this is the most consistently enjoyable recording I've heard from any one of them in many a moon? I dare. In his Semper Lo-Fi newsletter, Bowman ventures that Bump "comes close to a David Byrne meets Burt Bacharach hybrid." Well, I dunno. That sounds more like a statement of intent than anything they actually realized -- but this is still a jolly good disc." (Jim Santo's Demo Universe, 10/26/2000)
