The Second CD recording is "Workin' at 5,280 Feet" and featured tunes are Giant Steps, Blues For Wood, Summer In Central Park, Ruby My Dear, Lazybird, Freight Trane, My Favorite Things and We'll Be Together Again. Artist History
Jeff Barash, a native of Los Angeles, currently gigs in the Southern California area. Jeff has earned his Bachelor and Master's Degrees in Music. He has performed at various Jazz Festivals and Clubs around the world, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, Blues Alley in Washington, D.C., Andy's in Chicago, El Chapultapec in Denver, Tender Trap in Las Vegas, Steamers in Los Angeles, and Croce's in San Diego. A few of the numerous Jazz Greats he has peformed with are Joe Williams, Louie Bellson, Carl Fontana, Charles McPherson, Joe Bonner, Monk Montgomery, Benny Green, Joe Romano, Snooky Young, Harold Land, Ron Eschete, Lou Levy, and Jake Hanna. In 1993, his Jazz Trio performed on the Inaugural Nationwide Cable TV Broadcast of the "Jazz Discoveries" Program on Black Entertainment Television (BET). Jeff has had Jazz radio broadcasts on KVOD (Denver), KLON (Los Angeles), KUNV (Las Vegas), and NPR (National Public Radio).Jeff is active in the Los Angeles club scene fronting his Quartet. He is a member of the National Jazz Service Organization. |

Group Members
Mike Owen, plays Electric Guitar on the CD recording "Bouncin' On 160th Avenue." This Quartet recorded a first CD in January of 2000. Mike also composed "Subject To Change" on the recording. He has performed in various venues throughout the Los Angeles Metropolitan area as a free-lance musician and has had the opportunity to study with the legendary Joe Pass. Dave Hitchings, the drummer in the quartet, is also a Southern California native and grew up playing drums in big bands, and has worked in the LA Jazz Workshop and Woody Herman Big Bands. Included among the many jazz greats that Dave has played with are Pete Christlieb, Carl Fontana, Jack Sheldon, Conte Condoli,Richie Cole, John Heard, and Bobby Shew. Chris Larson, plays upright and electric bass in the quartet, and his musical background includes degrees from Florida Community College and the University of South Florida. He lives in California and has played bass with such jazz greats as Billy Eckstine, Terry Gibbs, and Carl Fontana. The Second CD recording, "Workin' at 5,280 Feet" features a number of famous Jazz Classics, and was recorded in Denver, Colorado in 1991. This Quartet consists of Jeff Barash on Tenor/Soprano Saxes, Joe Bonner on Electric Piano, Artie Moore on Acoustic Bass, and Ben Makinen on Drums. Joe Bonner, a Jazz Legend, has performed with famous notables such as Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Freddie Hubbard, and Pharoah Sanders. Joe is a world class recording artist on labels such as Steeplechase and Theresa Records. He has published numerous compositions. He is a resident/artist in Denver and Copenhagen. Artie Moore, the bassist on the recording, is a premier musician in the Denver, Colorado Jazz Scene and has worked every Jazz venue throughout the Metropolitan area, including the famous "El Chapultapec" were he worked in the early 1990's with jazz great Billy Wallace. Ben Makinen, the drummer in the group, worked in Florida before coming out to Denver. He is active on the Denver Jazz Scene, and has been a member of "Donna McGee and the Blue Notes" and "The Orphans" as part of the local scene. He performs regularly in the various downtown Denver Jazz Clubs. |
