Artist History
Daedulus is a band that desires to bring music back to the purest art form. Their art is a passionate expression of multiple emotions and an alternate outlet of desires. To just simply hear the music could only encompass a fraction of what a live performance conveys. Audiences tend to touch the boundaries of an array of emotions as Daedulus brings an onslaught of feeling through a live performance. With no desire to bring in many superficial effects or gimmicks that are seen in too many shows anymore, to see what kind of an effect a live Daedulus show has on your soul is definitely enjoyable.
Daedulus is a four-piece band made up of guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. Brian Sidinger (former guitar player) and Sean Bye (drums) began the band eight years ago under the name "Plug". Through various line up and band name changes, Brian approached Adam Brandt to play bass and Eric Strickland to thicken the guitar sound in February of 1999. After a couple of weeks the band was left without a vocalist due to conflicts in interest. Quickly, Adam recruited Andy Dalen, a vocalist that was in numerous bands in the area. The five members had been friends and played together on various occasions. From the moment the band played the first song, "Carved Tears" for Andy, they knew that this would be the final line up. Andy was quick to join the band. The most important part of Daedulus is that they are a family first and a band second. Sean, Brian, and Andy had played together as children in recitals while they were learning to play their instruments (at the time, Andy was learning to play bass). A few years later, Adam had befriended Brian and the two quickly became friends. Brian sparked an interest in Adam for heavy music and taught him how to play bass. After playing to CD's for a while, Adam and Brian started an "emo" band with Sean on the drums. Eric would always come to their practices and during the band's breaks, teach himself how to play guitar. Eric and Sean had also both played in the high school marching band in the percussion section. Adam and Sean had played in the junior high jazz band (Adam played saxophone at the time).
So Daedulus' history preceded them long before the birth of the band. Immediately the band began to play shows and jumped into the studio to record their first demo, "When Wings Fail". Many CDs and tapes were sold at shows and to interested listeners. The demos were also sent to numerous record labels and given out to national acts including GlassJAw, Machine Head, Mudvayne, Staind, etc. along with fans that attended these shows. They had also played two shows for ROR Production Company in both Chicago and Milwaukee that was a "Battle of the Bands" type format. They received an incredible response at both shows which were held at large venues in the cities ("The Metro" in Chicago, May of 2000 and "The Rave" in Milwaukee, November of 2000). These shows included 20 bands in the area, and Daedulus was voted the best band in Milwaukee by a panel of judges and received free studio time for the task. The band used this free studio time to record their second CD, "Touched By the Sun", which included four new songs along with re-recordings of two songs from the previous demo.
2001 began in pace of where the last year left off, with many shows and extensive promotion. However, at the end of April the band was forced to deal with the sudden loss of one of its guitar players, Brian Sidinger. The band spent the summer with Eric learning how to efficiently yet effectively change the guitar parts of the songs already written. The band also saw productivity and exceptional change in their song writing process, adding more complex melodies and adding variety to vocal patterns and techniques. As soon as the fall hit though, the band was back in the swim of things and playing more shows than ever, getting a very strong and positive response for their "comeback", new material, and live performance from fans and other bands alike. The band is looking to reach more of a broad audience and eventually in the near future, begin planning an extensive tour, and grab the attention of record labels.
Daedulus has produced valuable, original, quality music and is a MUST SEE live band. Don't miss out!
