Artist History
Tragic Rabbit is essentially a high school garage
band - was then (1976) and is now (1999). We
first formed in Plant High School and we still
rehearse (however sporadically) in Alan's garage.
As you may surmise from the aforementioned dates
(in particular the bi-centennial), we're not your
average teenage, high school R'nR band. By some
unfathomable freak of the time/space continuum,
we have somehow achieved middle-age whilst
miraculously maintaining the turbulent angst
and pimply skin of those earlier, hormone-driven
nether years. Dinosaurs in chameleon clothing,
if you will. But, after all, what's so bad about
dinosaurs?! Don't forget, they ruled the earth
for millions of years and more recently have
rendered millions of dollars in box office
revenue! Hey, why not the music industry as well?
Perhaps we should change our name to The Thunder
Lizards.
Speaking of names (great segue, huh?) we got our
real name, Tragic Rabbit, from a poem in the
Anne Rice novel Queen of the Damned. The poem
is written by her husband, Stan, and we actually
have no idea what it's about. But it has a nice
ring to it and comes from a book about vampires
so it can't be all bad.
If you'd like to know a little bit about the
individual members of Tragic Rabbit - too bad!
We are a highly tactile and clandestine
organization (not unlike the Masonic Order,
only more brazen about soliciting donations).
This however, I can tell you, we carefully
conceal our true muscular and svelt identities
behind the guises of overweight, somewhat
folically-challenged and gaseous troubadors.
The only other information I can safely divulge
is that Bo Smith is the singer, writes most of
the songs and prefers women which sport plenty
of toe cleavage. Alan Tatum and Mike Karup are
multi-instrumentalists specializing in guitars,
basses and a plethora of painful proctological
implements and Jim Harding is the drummer and
resident sex symbol (who proves particularly
attractive to women who are blind and have no
sense of smell).
Well, we could go on and on... where does the
time go? So if you're still curious, why not
stagger out one evening and catch us live at
one of our frequent engagements listed on our
web site? Or, if you're not so daring, but
you're one of those highly intellectual types
that appreciates quality and diversity in their
musical interludes, by all means sample a
helping or two from our cybernetic "platter
du jour" we call Music For Chameleons. Bon Appetit!
Thanks so much for visiting, getting to know our
twisted selves just a little better and please
feel free to drop by anytime. Comely or
homely, formal or buck naked - we don't care,
cause we can't see ya!
