Artist description
Torment are the alternative of the rock/pop scene that has came out of Britain lately. A sound that has become unique to them - powerful rhythm's and moody feel; keep the music on the rock fence, yet the clear melodic vocal lines, give their songs the "hook" of pop. There can be no better transition from rock to pop, or vice versa and this edge has helped Torment play all over Britain and in Hollywood, California at the prestigious F MusicFest event, playing along side top act's such as LA Guns, Motorhead, Ozzy etc. |

Press Reviews
Southend Who? Magazine review 26/10/98;TormentLive at The Minerva Sat.26th Sept. The British music industry is currently subjecting us to it’s own idea of "all male bands". This normal includes a line of talentless mummy’s boys dancing in unison, whilst they’re badly miming along to some song they didn’t even write. Well, for those of us who care enough to look, there is still an abundance of talent, which reminds us that we are not really a nation of wankers. This became apparent when I went to The Minerva to see Torment. At one point they played a song called "Welcome to the real world" and that was just how I felt. Their repertoire of material and colourful raw talent was only matched by their commitment & passion to produce such music.Mike (bass) reeled off a number of clawing guttural chords, whilst Richard (drums) delivered rhythms which entered the ear and went straight down to the tapping toes. Chris (guitar) gave us a mixture of mean rifts which put you on a plane which seemed far removed from Southend sea-front, and Brenton switched with ease from shoving power vocals in your face to sweeping waves of dulcet lyrics deep into the consciousness of the mind. The night was somehow made by the dedication of the song "Friend" to the memory of Andy Ballard, who recently passed on due to cancer. This was just a fine way to signify the true worth of a lost friend. Finally to some up the gig would be just to say Torment and talent are very similar words. |
