Artist History
Pushing Atlas is Adam Bonifant (vocals), Dan Miller (lead guitar), Kyle Winters (bass guitar), and Matt Miller (drum kit). Dan and Matt Miller formed the band in Blacksburg, VA in August 1998 after meeting one another through a Musicians Wanted flyer. Winters was brought on to play bass in September 1999, and Adam Bonifant entered the band in November of 1999. The band had played with several line-ups prior to solidifying itself with the new bassist and singer. The band prides itself on playing rock music with no exceptions. When not playing covers by rock bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Pearl Jam, and U2, the band spends a great deal of time finishing and rehearsing the material which will be featured on their first full-length album. Pushing Atlas spent the entire summer of 1999 writing and recording, and these sessions resulted in songs such as “Sensory Deprevation” and “Push Me Down.” With the addition of Winters on bass, the band has expanded its sound with the new tracks such as “Too Good.” The name Pushing Atlas refers to the band's goals and ideals they wish to drive into music. Atlas, the Greek character who was sentenced to spend eternity carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, when pushed, will shake the world. Rock music can do the same. Pushing Atlas has played shows all across the state of Virginia. Their music has been featured on radio programs in Washington DC, New York, and Roanoke. They hope to be signed and work as recording and touring artists for years to come. |
