Press Reviews
Samples from "ABC" give an idea of what his music is about. He has a delightful bedtime song that spells out "Pajamas" and a soothing "Nature's Lullaby," but his song in praise of dirt--"I like dirt, I want dirt, I like dirt. Dirt is purty, dirt is brown. . ."--has the catchy lyrics and child-like humor that can set the whole family laughing. If only newsprint could convey the music and sweet sound of a voice that seems made to sing to children!-The Davis Enterprise, Tuesday January 05, 1999, Page A-7Singer/composer Obie Leff writes songs about the little and not-so-little things in a child's day. The Yuba City-based composer has recorded two compact discs of songs for children in the past year, featuring 24 original compositions. All in all, he wrote 30 songs last year and has more tunes ready for recording. This prolific songwriter is first a devoted family man, then a full-time music teacher and a recreational golfer.Leff, 27, comes from a musical family. His father, a composer of off-Broadway tunes, named Obie for the award given to winning off-Broadway songs.Leff's songs appeal to young listeners, but many adults appreciate his tunes, too. The songs on Leff's current CDs, "ABC You Later" and "The Jump," teach the alphabet, numbers and other important lessons in a sing-along format.Leff hopes his songs have a future beyond his lifetime. When asked about his musical goals, he said after some thought, "I would like for my songs to be recognized in other parts of the nation and the world, other than by my family and friends. I want to share the goodness. I'd like for the songs to catch on with the next generation and be part of the oral culture."--Yuba City Appeal Democrat; Friday, January 08, 1999; Page F16 |
