I have to say I’m a rocker at heart, but my influences are pretty far-flung. My hook? How ‘bout “a rare gift for melody, coupled with lyrics that reveal a life perspective blah, blah, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

    Artist History
I’ve been playing, writing and recording rock and roll for my whole life, it seems. (Download my songs.) Starting as a singer in Long Island bands, I picked up the guitar—and started writing songs—when I was 15. (Go ahead--start downloading!) Since then, I’ve played countless gigs of every conceivable kind. I’ve written, performed on and produced three limited-release cassette albums that sold in the thousands, with no promotion other than word-of-mouth. (You're feeling an irresistable urge to download my songs.) And the band I've played in for the past 10 years has a hot reputation—and a big following—on Long Island’s East End, particularly in resort areas like the Hamptons.

Doug Cornell wrote: Michael Schiano's song "Billboard" captures the essence of 60's pop-rock. From the first verse, with its double tracked vocal and 12 string acoustic strumming, "Billboard" is a lively entry in the Byrds vs. Beatles tradition. The song has a bridge that will take you back to the Rubber Soul era, so don't be surprised if you find yourself wearing paisley and saying things like, "Groovy, Man". With a snappy back beat, "Billboard" would sound right at home in the sequel to the Tom Hanks film, "That Thing You Do". It's interesting to note that Tom Petty has been trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to capture this sound in his long career, but Schiano got it right his first time out. It's not easy to get such a perfect blend of electric guitars and vocals, but "Billboard" does, and serves as a perfect example of good-time rock and roll songwriting and production.
