    Artist description
JESSIE AND THE RAINDOGS is a high-voltage blues act fronted by vocal dynamo, Jessie Payo. The band began when Jessie, at the tender age of 14, fronted a band comprised of family and friends. Now, at 19, Jessie has become one of the most sought-after female blues singers in the Los Angeles area. She has shared the stage with Mickey Champion and Jonny Lang, been featured in a full-page article in Southland Blues proclaiming her as a "torch-bearer for the new generation of blues artists," and hailed in the San Bernardino Sun as "True Blues." Her consistent #1 standings on mp3 have gained her an international fan base from England to Australia and Japan. In a music scene that's largely image-driven and corporate run, Jessie and the Raindogs stands out as a band that is uncomprimising in delivering audiences their high-energy, heartfelt blues -- with deep respect for the original, classic blues, combined with the vitality of contemporary blues. With arrangements and original songs by bassist Jose Payo; killer guitarwork by guitarman Johnny Stachela; tasty grooves by drummer Steve Kim; and smooth sax by Benny Golbin, the band has made their mark on the Los Angeles blues scene playing such venues as B.B. King's Blues Club, Cozy's, House of Blues Foundation Room, The Mint, Yesteryears, and Harvelle's. They were invited to play at the EAT'M music conference in Las Vegas and the Women of Mp3 Tour in San Diego. the ha

    Press Reviews
"Tonight at the House of Blues Foundation Room, a very young, very vivacious and very talented performer by the name of Jessie Payo was making a debut appearance. ...Jessie's voice has a throaty, vibrant, energetic quality ... this girl has talent and she knows how to use it...This Blues band blasts from the past and I am sure will rocket into the future. I heard some good Blues last night." Nea Zim (Southland Blues)**************"Passing the Torch to a New Generation -- The new generation is Jessie Payo, age 17, high school junior with a ton of voice, sass, soul, rhythm and you ain't seen nothing yet attitude, all packed into a 5'0" 90 lb. body. I asked her "why blues" and she said that it is the music of the people and speaks to her and connects with her emotions. ... The slightly throaty voice that comes from center field and blasts you before you know it. That is a lot of speaking and connecting I'll tell you." Jon Hayes (Southland Blues Apr. 2000 edition)(Also in the same edition a review of the Pinetop Perkins/Hubert Sumlin show: "Opening first were Jessie and the Raindogs, who are young a spirited. Their high point was an original which ended with the band singing gospel a cappella."
