Artist History
Film formed a couple of years ago and self-released, their debut CD Filmland [Jan 99], which was immediately featured on Virgin.net as one of the weeks top releases, alongside The Barenaked Ladies and Ani DiFranco. ****************************************************************************** The band toured in support of the release and played Atlanta's huge 3 day Music Midtown Festival in May with Hole, Kent, and Kid Rock, as well as shows from Florida to New York. ****************************************************************************** MTV licensed all ten tracks from the disc and used two for it's "Road Rules' show season premier episode last June. Film then released a two song sampler. MP3.com featured the track "Be with me now" as its pop / rock song of the week, where it was downloaded over 1500 times in 4 days. The band were nominated for the Peoples Choice award at the Atlanta Local Music AwardS and were voted best [heavy] rock band in Atlanta by the readers of Creative Loafing. ****************************************************************************** The band released their new single "Lead Machine" in Jan 00 and were immediately chosen to open for FUEL during Atlanta's Super Bowl festivities. The band played Music Midtown for an unprecedented 2nd year, and are currently in the studio finishing their sophomore effort. ****************************************************************************** Film were in two major competitions in June. They were one of 10 semi-finalists for VH1's undiscovered bands show, and finished 5th in garageband.com's race for a $250,000 recording contract. ****************************************************************************** Film closed 2000 winning Lucky Strike's Band to Band, as well as being picked as one of the top 16 unsigned bands in the USA by Mars Music. |
