Artist description
His debut full-length record, Waters Ave. S., was Damien’s exploration into pop and folk music. Ably assisted by producer Steve Fisk, who played an array of instruments on the album, Waters Ave. S. seamlessly blended a knack for pop whimsy (cf. Daniel Johnston or Doug Martsch) with Damien’s more sincere, and generally darker, leanings. The new record, produced by Ken Stringfellow (of Posies’ fame), showcases Damien’s growth over the last two years. Having toured a bunch during this time, with more streamlined instrumentation (often simply Damien and a guitar), Rehearsals for Departure reflects this more stripped-down and intimate style, focusing on his heartfelt, folk side. |

Artist History
Damien has played in numerous bands since moving to Seattle in 1988, but it was a last-minute solo opening slot for Sunny Day Real Estate lead singer Jeremy Enigk that first kindled the interest of Sub Pop. In his live performances, Damien’s ingenuous and funny storytelling, unique voice, and wide range of songs never cease to win over audiences. Such was the case with Sub Pop co-owner Jonathan Poneman and within a few weeks of the show Damien had agreed to record his first single. And he’s been a college radio favorite ever since. |

Press Reviews
There are many glorious reviews, but the most interesting is that Aussie pop star Ben Lee is a big enough fan of Damien’s to refer to him as an "angel." |
